HONOLULU--Cornell snapped Hawaii's six match unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win Friday night in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Soccer Shootout. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 5-2-1 with the loss.
Emily Knight scored both goals for the Big Red (4-1-1) who won their fourth straight match. Knight scored her first goal a mere seven minutes into the match and netted an insurance goal in the 57th minute. The first goal was setup by Shannon Frasier as she out-dueled UH's Jessica Uecker for a loose ball then sprinted up the left wing before laying a perfect cross to Knight straight up the middle.
Frasier had a chance to score a goal of her own five minutes into the second half, but Rainbow Wahine goalie Mahie Atay made a brilliant play, stuffing Frasier in a one-on-one situation. Knight, however, would not be denied soon after as she put away her second goal of the match on breakaway.
Hawaii out-shot the Big Red 16-8, yet were out of sync for much of the match. The team's best opportunity game with just six minutes left in the match as Robyn deHay fired a shot that bounced off the right post.
The Rainbow Wahine look to rebound on the road as they travel to Houston, Texas and face Rice in their Western Athletic Conference opener on Friday, September 26. The match begins at 7 p.m. CST.
