WAIPAHU, Oahu - Forward Natasha Kai put on an offensive performance not seen in the University of Hawai`i's 10-year soccer history. The sophomore and reigning Western Athletic Conference player of the year, scored five goals in the Rainbow Wahine's 8-0 blowout of Morehead State, Sunday night, on the final day of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic.

The Rainbow Wahine (5-1-1) captured the tournament crown by outscoring the Lady Eagles and Utah Valley State, 13-2, on the way to their fifth victory in six matches. The eight goals against MSU was a school single-match record.

Kai's five goals and 11 points easily eclipsed the previous marks of three and six, which she also shared with other players. For the weekend, the Kahuku, Oahu native posted eight goals, one assist, and 17 points.

The Rainbow Wahine pounced on the Lady Eagles early and often. Kai torched the nets just seven seconds into the match after receiving the kickoff pass from junior Robyn deHay. Kai was at it again during the 16th minute, off a midfield throw-in pass from junior Liz Lusk. Six minutes later, Lusk found Kai with a through ball and after a nifty move, the Rainbow Wahine were leading 3-0.

Head coach Pinsoom Tenzing removed Kai from the game after the goal at the 22nd minute and she wouldn't return until midway through the second half. Upon her re-entry, Kai scored again off a rebound in front of the goal in the 71st minute and finished her scoring performance with a breakaway down the left-side and beat the goalkeeper at the 81st minute.

Junior Tasha Hagen, junior Kalena Eaton, and senior Arlene Devitt also scored for the Rainbow Wahine who also broke the school points record with 23 and tied the assist mark of seven.

Hawai'i next face Cornell, Sept. 20, in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Shootout.Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
