WAIPAHU, Oahu - The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team scored two goals in each half, while the defense shut down Bowling Green State, to blank the Falcons 4-0 in the final match of the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi. Junior
Robyn deHay dished out three assists to tie Hawai`i's match assists record.
DeHay's first assist came on the game's first goal. The Aiea, Oahu native, fed the ball to junior Tia Medeiros at the top of the 18-yard box, who then touched the ball to senior Arlene Devitt who cut through the Falcon defense for the golden goal. DeHay then hooked up with sophomore Natasha Kai on identical long balls sent over the defense for Hawai`i's next two goals.
After coming up empty on two previous breakaway's Kai connected on two chips over the goalkeeper, the first with less than three minutes left in the first half, the second halfway through the final period. A Kai also scored the final goal of the game, however it was younger sister Krisha Kai who beat the Falcon defense on a long ball by senior Mia Moe for her first career goal.
The Hawai`i defense limited Bowling Green to nine shots. However, when those shots went towards the net, sophomore Mahie Atay was able to corral them. Atay recorded four saves as she teamed with junior Erin Chow for the shutout.
The Rainbow Wahine will hit the road for their next match when they face Cal State Northridge on Sept. 5.
