COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force defeated the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team, 4-3, Friday, in a match between two of the winningest coaches in NCAA history. The Warriors, who played its first match in 19 days, dropped to 13-11 on the season.
UH's Jim Schwitters is the all-time Division I leader in victories while Air Force's Rich Gugat is fourth. The Falcons captured the match with victories in the No. 1, 5, and 6 singles spots and took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3.
Senior Reginaldo Moralejo won his team-leading 18th victory and sixth straight after a 6-4, 4-6, (10-8) victory over Chris Dong at the No. 4 court. Malino Oda also went three sets in his match against Eric Pittman at the No. 2 position, winning 5-7, 6-1, 3-3 (10-2). Justin Menolascino was the only other Warrior to win his singles match, sweeping Tyler McClung, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3.
UH next faces Denver, Sunday, before traveling to Boise, Idaho for a Western Athletic Conference match against the Broncos, Tuesday.
