Warriors Advance in Anteater Classic

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai’i men’s tennis team advanced to the championship rounds of the 24th Annual UC Irvine Anteater Classic, after edging Southwest Missouri State, 4-3, Thursday. The Warriors (11-9), winners of five of its last six matches, will next face host UC Irvine, Friday.

Leading the way for the Warriors was senior Francisco Brignole at No. 5 singles, who defeated Pedja Pavlicic, 6-2, 6-4, for his sixth consecutive victory. Senior Reginaldo Moralejo swept Filip Knezevic, 6-1, 6-3, for his team-leading 14th victory on the year.

The Bears got on the scoreboard first by winning two of three doubles contests. The Warriors’ only win on the doubles court was at No. 3, where Moralejo and Brignole teamed up for an 8-5 victory over Pavlicic and Shingirayi Nyagura for their fifth victory in their last six meetings.
