SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA –The University of Hawai'i men’s tennis team earned their second and third victories on 3-win streak this weekend in California against Westmont College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) College. The Warriors improved their record to 9-8, the first winning record for the team this season.

Friday (3/21), in Santa Barbara, Calif. the Westmont men’s team were no match for the Rainbow Warriors. UH lost a single match in doubles play and swept all singles matches for the day, beating the Westmont Warriors, 8-1.

In singles play, Ryan Sceats on the No. 1 court splits sets with Westmont’s Thommas de Liefde before capturing the match, 12-10 in the super tiebreaker. Similarly the No. 3 court saw Rainbow Warrior Justin Menolascino going to super tiebreaker with Jon Annett; Menolascino won the tiebreaker, 10-3.

On Saturday the Warriors faced the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College Stags. UH dominated on the court, again losing just a single match for the day and beating the Stags, 6-1. In the days only upset UH’s Ryan Sceats, on the No. 1 court, split sets with John Michael Chamakoon, but was unable to keep up his momentum losing the super tiebreaker, 10-8.

On the No. 3 court, Justin Menolascino added another win to improve his personal win-streak to four. Menolascino easily beat out CMS’s John Goldis, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles play, the Warriors captured all three doubles matches for the day. The doubles teams of Jarrod Diepraam/Ryan Sceats and Reggis Moralejo/Francisco Brignole both earned their third victory in as many matches on the season. Although Sceats dropped his singles match, he and Diepraam were fierce as they beat CMS’s Zach Myers and Christopher Kan, 8-6.
