MORAGA, Calif. - The Hawai'i men's tennis team won its third consecutive match, defeating Saint Mary's, 4-3, Monday, at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex. The Warriors (4-4) improved to 3-1 on its current eight-match road swing through California.
Both teams split the singles matches with the Warriors capturing the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 positions. Senior Justin Menolascino rallied past Rafael Lopez, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Senior Francisco Brignole overcame a rocky first set to defeat Romain Lachens, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the No. 3 spot while senior Reginaldo Moralejo won by default over Martin Marechal, 6-4, 4-1.
In the closest match of the day, SMC's Filip Sarovic outlasted UH's Jarrod Diepraam, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (2), 6-3 at the No. 6 singles position.
Hawai'i captured the decisive fourth team point when two of its three doubles teams won its matches. UH's No. 1 team of Malino Oda and Menolascino beat Lopez/Marechal, 8-4. The No. 2 team of Diepraam and Ryan Sceats needed overtime to defeat Thomas Burgemeister and Whilinger, 9-7.
The Warriors continue its road trip with a match against Santa Clara, Tuesday.
