Warriors Crowned Co-Champions at Turtle Bay

KAHUKU - The University of Hawai'i Warrior golf team has been named co-champions of the 2003 Turtle Bay Intercollegiate along with the University of South Carolina. The Warriors shot a 4-over par 292 in the third round to move from 4th place into 1st. This marks the first victory of the season for the Warriors.

Hawai'i was led by junior Manarii Gauthier who shot a 1-under par 71 and finished tied for 7th place during Tuesday's action. Senior golfer Matthew Kodama notched his fifth top-ten finish of the season by finishing in a tie for 9th place with a +6. Senior Pierre-Henri Soero propelled himself to 13th place with an even 72 in the third round. Other Warriors in action were freshman Cody Wolfenbarger (233, T51st place) and senior James Beston (235, T57th place).

South Carolina's Robert Svensson was crowned individual champion after finishing -2 with a 214. Svensson was followed by Coast Carolina's Alvaro Velasco who shot a 1-under par 215 to finish in 2nd.

The Turtle Bay Intercollegiate was the final competition in the first half of the season. Action resumes in February. The Warriors next travel to the Waikoloa on the Big Island to participate in the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawai'i-Hilo, Feb. 11-13.
