Hawai`i Tied For Fourth After Two Rounds at Turtle Bay

KAHUKU, Hawai`i.-- The University of Hawai`i men's golf team finished the first day of the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate in a three-way tie for fourth place after two rounds at the 7,199 yard Links at Turtle Bay golf course. The Warriors are playing host to 17 teams in the two-day event.

The Warriors are looking very sharp after shooting a 599 and ending the day with four players in the top 30. Hawai`i was led by senior golfer Matt Kodama who opened the day with a 1-over par 73 and a 4-over par 76 in the second round. Kodama has had top-ten finishes in all four of the previous events. Junior Manarii Gauthier and freshman Cody Wolfenberger are both tied for 23rd after posting 150 each after the first two rounds. Gauthier was tied for 7th after the first round where he shot an even 72. Also in the line-up for the Warriors are senior Pierre Henri Soero (151, T28th place) and senior James Beston (159, T69th place).

South Carolina and the University of Virginia are tied for first place with 591 each after two rounds of play and the two are followed closely by San Francisco (592, 3rd place). Alvaro Velasco of Coastal Carolina and Jordan Madison of Washington State are leading the pack with scores of 142.

Action will resume tomorrow morning at the Links at Turtle Bay with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
