Hawaii Edges Boise State, 1-0

Box Score

BOISE, Idaho-- Natasha Kai scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute as Hawaii defeated Boise State, 1-0, in a Western Athletic Conference match, Sunday afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine won their third match in a row and improved to 10-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the WAC.

Boise State (5-9-1, 1-2 WAC) came out determined to stop UH's potent offense, employing five backs and two sweepers. But in the end they could not stop one of the nation's leading scorers in registering her fifth game-winning goal of the season. Junior midfielder Joelle Sugai provided a cross from the left flank into a crowded box and after the dust cleared, Kai was able to poke a loose ball in the back of the net from five yards out.

Kai continues to rewrite the UH record books. After shattering her single-season scoring record Friday with four goals versus Nevada, Kai now has become the new career goals leader at UH, surpassing teammate Arlene Devitt. Kai has 21 goals on the season and a total of 37 in just 31 career matches. The super sophomore also broke another record she set last year, by scoring a goal in her last five consecutive matches.

The Rainbow Wahine out-shot the Broncos 15-8, including 13-6 in the second half. The Rainbow Wahine are now 6-1-1 on the road this season.

The Rainbow Wahine next travel to Pocatello to take on Idaho State in a non-conference match, tomorrow at 3 p.m. MST.
