HONOLULU -- The No. 4 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (4-0) defeated the San Francisco Dons (2-3) 30-15, 30-20 and 30-16 in front of a crowd of 6,413 in the Aston Imua Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center Thursday.
Kim Willoughby led the way for Hawai`i with 20 kills, 11 digs and four blocks while hitting .457. Lily Kahumoku added a 14 kill, 10 dig, .375 performance while Lauren Duggins had another solid night with eight kills, five digs, three blocks and a .462 hitting percentage while playing just two games.
As a team, UH hit .403 on the night while playing most of their players. Redshirt freshman Ashley Watanabe saw her first action as a libero in the third game, tallying four digs. Transfer Karin Lundqvist also played well, adding six kills, eight digs and three blocks whille hitting .600.
Brittanie Budinger led the way for San Francisco with 10 kills and eight digs. Libero Caroline Skacel led all performers with 12 digs for the Dons.
Hawai`i will now face San Diego State tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the second day of the Aston Imua Challenge. The Aztecs fell to Washington 31-29, 30-23 and 30-21 in the early match of the day. The Huskies will face USF in the 5 p.m. match tomorrow.
