Rainbow Soccer Stunned by Weber State, 3-2

Box Score

HONOLULU – The Rainbow Wahine received goals from Mia Moe and Carmen Calpo and outshot Weber State 24-to-13, but could not hold-off a hungry Wildcat squad that produced three, second half goals, falling 3-2 in a non-conference match at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Calpo, a freshman from Waianae, Oahu, registered a goal and her team-leading fifth assist in the loss. Calpo opened the match's scoring at 13:49, when she ran onto a through ball from midfielder Tia Medeiros and beat Weber State keeper Kandice Golar. Medeiros initiated the score when she intercepted a Wildcat pass and turned, and sent a well-paced ball behind the Weber State back line, allowing Calpo to break free and put away her second goal of the year.

Weber State netted the equalizer two minutes, 14 seconds into the second half when Jessica Murphy collected a rebound of a Rochelle Hoover shot and pushed it past Rainbow keeper Mahie Atay. Hoover cracked a right-footed shot from about 30-yards out that drilled the cross bar and hopped right at Murphy, who calmly first goal of the season.

Moe gave Hawai'i back the lead at 51:28 when she controlled a looping centering pass from Calpo, shook her defender, and placed a right-footer into the net from about 12 yards out. Calpo earned the assist by collecting a loose ball just outside the Weber State penalty box and turning and finding Moe. The score was Moe's first in green and white after transferring from Loyola Marymount last year.

The late match heroics of Wildcat keeper Golar and Tiffany Foerster carried Weber State from there. Golar, a sophomore who entered the match having played just over 178 minutes of her team's 740 total minutes, finished the evening with nine saves, many of which where quite athletic in nature. Golar stopped several genuine Hawai'i scoring opportunities from inside her own penalty box with sure hands and diving attempts.

Foerster netted both the equalizer and the game winner within a two minute span. Foerster's first score came at 72:31 when she took control of a loose ball in the Hawai'i penalty box and put away her second goal of the season.

Foerster struck again at 74:14 on another unassisted goal when she ran onto a misplayed pass by Hawai'i and drove 20 yards into the Rainbow penalty box and pushed the game-winner past an on-rushing Atay.

Hawai'i and Weber State will face-off again on Sunday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
