Rainbow Wahine Sweep Lady Techsters in Softball

RUSTON, LA. - Sheri Oronoz and Shannon Tabion each tossed complete-games as Hawai`i swept Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La., today in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Oronoz (17-7), in the first game, set the tone for the afternoon. She pitched her second-straight shutout over the Lady Techsters in as many days.

She limited the LTU offense to three hits en route to a 5-0 victory.

Oronoz helped her cause as she also went 2-for-2 at the plate. In the fourth inning, she collected an RBI single to drive home one of UH's two runs in the inning. Then in the fifth, she slammed a two-run homer to left to plate Trisha Ramos who was on first after a single.

Shortstop Kate Judd also hit a leadoff home run in the fifth, her ninth of the season.

In the second game, Tabion ( 3-2) got her first WAC start and scattered six hits while striking out nine and walking two. The Rainbow Wahine went on to win the contest 5-1.

UH struck in the second for two runs both coming after the first two batters made outs. Oronoz singled, Marie Jackson walked, and Jennifer Tandarich singled to load the bases. Natalie Gonzales drove in two with her single to right center.

UH broke the game open in the fifth when they added three more runs highlighted by the RBI hits by Ramos, Denise Dahlberg, and Jackson.

The Lady Techsters got their only run on the day in the sixth as Casey Reiff drove home Amber Miles with a single to left center.

Hawai`i runs its record to 29-17 on the season and 10-2 in the WAC. Louisiana Tech falls to 19-16 and 3-10.

Hawai`i will host first place Fresno State this coming Friday and Saturday in WAC doubleheaders at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
