RENO, Nev. – Playing in its first match in three weeks, the University of Hawai‘i women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Nevada, Friday, at the Caughlin Tennis Club.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-15) struggled early on, dropping two of the three doubles matches giving the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead. However, Hawai‘i looked to their freshman duo, Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor for motivation as they defeated No. 2 Vania Apodaca and Kodee Domingo, 8-4.
Fitzgerald carried the momentum into the singles portion of the competition as she blanked Nevada’s top player Tjasa Jezernik in the first set, 6-0. But Jezernik would soon turn the match around taking the second and third sets, 6-1, 6-1. Mainor had more success in her match, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Kodee Domingo for UH’s only point.
