Warriors Fall in Fifth Place Match

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai‘i men’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Denver, Saturday, in the fifth place match of the UCI Anteater Classic. The Warriors (15-10) completed their 10-day road trip through California with a 4-4 record.

In singles competition, the Pioneers took the No. 1, 2, and 6 spots easily with straight set victories. UH responded with a three-set victory in the No. 5 position when Jorge Gonzalez rallied past Trevor Young, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. But Denver closed out the match with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 victory by Haus Peter Gaber over UH’s Francisco Brignole in No. 4 singles.

After Denver already clinched the team victory, the teams did not play the three doubles matches and abandoned the No. 3 singles contest between Jay Patel and UH’s Malino Oda.

UH returns home where they will conclude the regular season against Azusa Pacific, April 2.
