The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine tennis team took the court looking for their first victory, but were unable to overcome No. 19 Baylor, falling 7-0 at the UH Tennis Complex Thursday.
Although the Bears swept the match, head coach Carolyn Katayama says the score doesn’t reflect the effort of the Rainbow Wahine.
“I'm very proud of the way we performed against a No. 19 team,” Katayama said. “We did awesome and we stuck out every match till the end.”
The very young Rainbow Wahine team continues to gain tremendous experience. Freshman Lauren Fitzgerald challenged Baylor’s Frida Boriesson by taking her to three sets. Fitzgerald would win the first set, 6-4, then lost a close second set, 7-5. But Borjesson would pull out the victory in a sudden death tie-breaker, 10-7.
The Rainbow Wahine will look for their first win of the year against Westmont College at the UH Tennis Complex Monday, March 11. The match will start at 3 p.m.
