The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine tennis team got a second chance at Cal State Sacramento but fell short, 3-4, at the UH Tennis Complex Tuesday.
The Hornets stormed out to an early lead sweeping all three of the doubles matches. The duo of Justine Boutet and Polina Kravets did two points better than in the last meeting against Sacramento’s Crista Rivieccio and Amanda Sanchez but still lost in the effort, 8-2.
Senior co-captain Birgitte Brubakken claimed victories in the No. 3 position in both meetings. In the latest meeting Brubakken defeated Petra Abraham in the first set, 6-4, but would fall in the second, 2-6. Brubakken would win the third match, 10-6, to tie the team score at one point a piece.
Rainbow Wahine Polina Kravets and Justine Boutet also won their matches, however the Hornets continued their domination in the No. 1, 2, and 4 positions.
The Rainbow Wahine look to break an eight-game losing streak Wednesday when they host Baylor University at the UH Tennis Complex. Matches begin at 3:00 p.m.
