Warriors Fall to Southern Miss at UCI Classic

IRVINE, Calif. – In the opening round of the 23rd Annual UC Irvine Anteater Classic, the University of Hawai‘i men’s tennis team dropped its match to Southern Mississippi, 6-1, at the UCI Tennis Stadium. The Warriors (14-9) fall to the consolation round on Friday where they will meet Southwest Missouri State, a 7-0 loser to host UC Irvine, at 9:00 a.m.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Kai Ohuchi and Jorge Gonzalez netted UH’s only victory in the No. 3 spot, with an 8-5 decision over Uwe Gneiting and Juanjo Martin.

Southern Miss continued to dominate the match with victories in the top two singles positions. Miikka Kangas and David Jansson posted victories over Reginaldo Moralejo and Justin Menolascino. Malino Oda ended the USM sweep with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Juanjo Martin in No. 3 singles. The Golden Eagles finished off the Warriors, sweeping the No. 4-6 singles positions.
