Melissa Coogan tossed a complete-game as the Rainbow Wahine earned a split in the second day of the Chevron Invitational by knocking off Nittaidai #2 of Japan, 4-1. In earlier action in the day, Northwestern defeated UH, 8-5.
Coogan scattered six hits and gave up an unearned run while striking out three.
The Rainbow Wahine only mustered three hits, but they made them count.
In the first inning, Stacie Hirano walked and scored on Kate Judd's double to center.
UH added two more in the third inning when Hirano reached on an error, Judd walked, and both scored on April Crowell's double.
UH added an insurance run in the seventh as Sheri Oronoz walked, stole second, advanced to third and scored on consecutive wild pitches.
Nittaidai added a run in the bottom of the seventh when Saori Shirai reached on an error, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on another error.
In the early game, Northwestern pounded out 10 hits, six off UH starter Oronoz (12-7). The Wildcats scored in all but one inning to improve to 7-6-1 and 2-0 in the tourney. UH fell to 20-14 and 2-2 in the invite.
