Karena Greeny went out on a winning note in their final home appearance as Hawaii defeated Boise State, 65-54, on Senior Night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine played stifling defense and got a career-performance by junior
Natasja Allen to win their fourth straight.
The Wahine improved to 21-6 overall and finished WAC play with a 14-4 mark. UH tied Rice for second place in the regular season standings, but the Lady Owls earned the No. 2 seed in next week's WAC Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., by virtue of their season sweep of Hawaii.
UH limited Boise State (9-19, 5-13 WAC) to just 30 percent shooting for the game and held a nine-point lead at the break after forcing the Broncos to miss 23 of their first 30 shots (23 percent). The Rainbow Wahine led from wire to wire, opened a 14-point lead in the second half and held off all Boise State comeback bids.
Meanwhile, Allen became the primary option in the post offensively as center Christen Roper played limited minutes due to foul trouble. The junior forward set career-highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds while also adding two blocks and two steals.
UH struggled from the floor, shooting just 36 percent from the game, but cashed in on the charity stripe nailing 21-of-27 from the line. The Rainbow Wahine also out-rebounded the Broncos, 48-35.
Gabrielova finished with six points, four assists and thee steals in her final home game, while Greeny recorded nine points, five rebounds and two blocks. Chelsea Wagner added 15 points and five rebounds for UH. Mandy Welch led Boise State with 12 points.
The No. 3 seed Rainbow Wahine will open the WAC Tournament against No. 6 Nevada in quarterfinal action on Wednesday, March 6.
