HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine tennis team split a pair of matches, Tuesday afternoon, in windy conditions at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine edged Iowa State, 4-3, in the earlier match but dropped a 4-2 decision to Oklahoma in the nightcap.
With its match against the Cyclones all tied at 3, No. 6 singles Justine Boutet fought off ISU’s Karin Westberg, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6), in a dramatic third game tie-breaker.
UH (5-12) top singles player Lauren Fitzgerald and No. 3 singles Brigitte Brubakken were impressive, winning both of their matches.
Oklahoma wrapped up the singles portion, winning four of the first five matches. The teams abandoned doubles competition after the Sooners already clinched the team victory.
