The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine tennis team (1-9) defeated Westmont College in sweeping fashion, 7-0, marking the teams first win of the season at the UH Tennis Complex, Monday.
In doubles action, Hawai`i’s Birgitte Brubakken and Paige Mainor had to overcome a 4-1 deficit to defeat Westmont’s Paige Johnson and Lynn Quitoriano, 8-5. Rainbow Wahine Lyndsey Thomas and Kristy Oshita cruised to a victory with an 8-0 shutout over Christine Blews and Megan Heublein.
With the Rainbow Wahine out to a 1-0 lead, the team took their momentum into the singles portion of the match. Senior captain Stacy Hakikawa squeezed past Kendyll Whiting, 7-5, but Hakikawa would dominate the second set and finish strong with a 6-1 win. The young Rainbow Wahine team controlled the entire match improving them to 1-9 on the season.
The Wahine will next take to the court Wednesday against Butler. Matches will begin at 3:00 p.m.
