HONOLULU - The 12th-ranked University of Hawaii women's water polo team fell to top-ranked Stanford, 13-4, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Sunday afternoon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Stanford (11-0, 2-0 MPSF) using its size and strength, scored four goals in the first period and never looked back. Hawaii (7-6, 1-3 MPSF) held the Cardinal to one goal and scored its first of the match in the second period to trail 5-1 at the break.
But the Cardinal got five goals in the third period to run away with it. Eight different players scored for the Cardinal, led by junior 2M Julie Gardner who finished with three.
The Rainbow Wahine got goals from Karin van Hoff, Chelsea Garner Prohs, Colleen Schiman, and Erin Kocher.
The Rainbow Wahine continue MPSF play next week, against USC on March 15 at 6 p.m. and Cal State Northridge at 10 a.m. on March 16, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
