HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i pitcher Sheri Oronoz (11-5) tossed a five-hit gem today to lead UH past Oregon State, 2-1, for the Chevron Malihini Softball Tournament title today at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Oronoz pitched a grity game working out of a couple of tight jams in extra-innings before UH pushed the winning run across in the ninth inning.

Oregon State got on the board in the bottom of the second as Oronoz got the first two batters but gave up three-straight singles for the Beavers' only run.

UH tied the game in the sixth when Natalie Gonzales' one-out single got the ball rolling. She went to second on Stacie Hirano's ground out to first and scored on Kate Judd's bloop single to right.

UH broke the tie in the top of the ninth when Hirano was placed on second as part of the international tie-breaker rule. She went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth, pinch-runner Miranda Dellinger was placed on second. Shelly Prochaska then hit a ball to Judd at shortstop who threw to first for the first out, but UH first baseman Stacey Porter then rifled the ball back across the diamond to get Dellinger who rounded third base too far. Oronoz then got Kelly Petersen to ground out to end the marathon.

Hawai`i improves to 18-12 on the year while Oregon State falls to 24-9.
