SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahne tennis team remain winless as they faced off against the University of Pacific Tigers in a feisty matchup Friday on the UC Santa Barbara campus.
Freshman Kimberly Curtis managed to prevent a sweep by pulling out a three-set victory. Curtis won the first set 6-3. Pacisic’s Lisa Lester edged out Curtis in the second set, 4-6. In the last set, Curtis would return the favor by squeeking past Lester, 6-4.
Rainbow Wahine newcomer Justine Boutet did not go down easily as shee too took her match to three sets. Boutet lost the first set to Jaimee Bremner, 4-6, but dominated the next with a 6-1 comeback, forcing a deciding third set. Bremner would hang on to win, 6-4, handing Boutet her fourth consecutive loss in dual competition.
The Rainbow Wahine look to snap its winnless drought facing Cal State Sacramento and UC Santa Barbara over the next two days.
