Rainbow Wahine Bats Come Alive Late for 8-2 Win to Start Chevron Paradise Classic

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i bats came alive just in time tonight as the Rainbow Wahine scored seven times over the final two innings to win convincingly, 8-2, over Texas-Arlington to start play in the 6th Chevron Paradise Classic at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UH's Kate Judd powered a towering home run to right field to put UH on the board in the top of the first, 1-0.

That lead held up until UTA tied it in the bottom of the fourth as Sherri Wardlow drove home Melanie Williams on a single to right field.

UH's Sheri Oronoz (4-1) ran into some trouble in the sixth. That's when reliever Melissa Coogan got out of a bases-loaded situation to notch UH's first save of the season.

UH broke the tie in the sixth as they collected big RBI singles from Stacie Hirano and Jennifer Tandarich.

UH added four more runs in the seventh, three on the bases-clearing double by Hirano. Hirano led UH at the plate on the night going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

UTA added one more run in the bottom of the seventh on the RBI single by Amber Kuykendall.

UH improves to 6-3 on the season, winning their last five in a row, while UTA falls to 5-7.
