The Warrior tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over Abilene Christian, Monday, at the UH Tennis Complex to extend its win streak to a modest two games.
The Warriors dominated from the start and did not give Abilene any chances to make any late come back. Hawai‘i swept the dobles matches with ease. The duo of Justin Menolascino and Reginaldo Moralejo gave an impressive performance defeating Julien Curatella and Cody Chapman, 8-1, in the No. 2 position. Lincoln Leeder and Malino Oda continue to rack up wins improving their doubles record to 3-4. The pair defeated Theron Cole and Kirk O’Connor, 8-5.
Jorge Gonzalez and Kai Ohuchi defeated Abilene’s duo by the slimmest margin, 8-6, The Warrior duo leads the team in victories (4) and has the best winning percentage (.800). Gonzalez and Ohuchi defeated Walter Seidel and Max Lawrence in the No. 3 doubles position.
In singles action, current victories leader Menolascino obtained win No. 6 by defeating Theron Cole, 7-5, 6-4. Oda follows Menolascino with five victories after downing Lawrence 6-1, 6-2.
On Saturday, the Warriors defeated Gustavus Adolphus, 5-2, at the UH Tennis Complex. UH took five-of-six singles matches against the NCAA Division III school.
The Warrior team will have a month to refule before taking on their next oppnent Butler, March 11.
Schwitters Closing in on 800
Warrior head coach, Jim Schwitters, is closing in on victory No. 800. The winningest coach in NCAA history currently has 793 wins and could possibly reach 800 by March.
