HONOLULU - The 2002 Rainbow Wahine senior class of
Wanette Miyashiro,
Noelle Takemoto,
Jennifer Churchill and
Erin Quattromani set the tone in their final home match, leading their team to a 5-0 victory over Western Athletic Conference rival Nevada, before a season-high 1,429 fans at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Miyashiro and Quattromani helped spark the Wahine attack from the midfield, combining to assist on three of Hawai`i's scores tonight. Miyashiro, a three-year captain, enjoyed what may have been the best outing of a decorated career, registering two assists.
Quattromani assisted on Arlene Devitt's goal at 58:51 to post her seventh assist of the year, keeping her among team and league leaders. On the season the transfer from Stanford has recorded 15 offensive points, a personal career high.
Takemoto and Churchill helped direct a Rainbow defensive unit that held the Wolfpack scoreless and limited Nevada to just eight shots on the evening. Churchill posted her 12th career win and the fourth shutout of the year for Hawai`i.
Hawai`i freshman striker Natasha Kai added to her already lenghty list of program records, scoring two goals to set new Wahine soccer highs in season goals (14) and points (31). The previous reocrds for both categories were set by Devitt last season. With her fourth game-winning goal of the year, Kai is now tied for the school's season record in that category as well.
Devitt was the most produvctive Wahine in the win, scoring two goals while also adding an assist. Her outburst tonight upped her school career records for career points (74), goals (29) and assists (16).
With road matches agains San Jose State and Fresno State remaining, the Rainbow Wahine have already enjoyed their most productive offensive season ever. This season's team has set new school records for points (135), goals (44), assists (47), and shots (349).
The Rainbows will conclude their regular-season with their road matches in San Jose (Nov. 1) and Fresno (Nov. 3) this coming week. The league's championship tournament will begin on Nov. 7.
