The University of Hawaii men’s tennis team came out in full force to defeat Sonoma State in a sweep, 7-0, at the UH Tennis Complex Tuesday.
The Warriors come off a one-and-a-half month long break led by WAC player of the month (Nov.) Justin Menolascino, who leads the team in victories with 4. Menolascino defeated Ken Limanseto in two sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Capturing their first doubles victory are Menolascino and Reginaldo Moralejo. The win marks the second doubles match for the duo as they downed Sonoma’s Ryan Shipman and Ken Limanseto, 8-2.
Jorge Gonzalez and Kai Ohuchi are also making marks in doubles action. The pair are undefeated with an unblemished 2-0 record.
In last season’s meeting, the Warriors attained their first victory of the season against Sonoma State. The Warriors won, 5-2, and was led by Reginaldo Moralejo, who currently continues to sit in the lead spot in the Warrior singles lineup. Moralejo continued domination over the Cossacks, defeating Mark Krzynsik, 6-4, 7-5.
In the No. 6 position UH’s Lincoln Leeder and Sonoma’s Glen Smith took the match to three sets. Leeder won the first set, 6-1, however Smith came back in the second to stop Leeder, 1-6. In the deciding third match, Leeder came away with the win, 6-3, finalizing the Warrior sweep.
The victory marks the second sweep of the season for the Warriors.
