TULSA, Okla.—The University of Hawaii Wahine basketball team snapped its two game losing streak with an impressive 65-51 win over Tulsa Saturday at the Donald Reynolds Center. The Wahine improved to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the WAC.
UH entered the game trying to break out of a recent offensive slump, including its worst offensive performance in the last two years in a 57-43 loss at Rice on Thursday. UH came out smoking, making 8 of its first 10 shots against Tulsa. The Wahine were particularly red hot from outside, hitting seven of their first eight 3 pointers.
The Wahine held a 42-23 lead at half with Janka Gabrielova and Chelsea Wagner combining for 23 points and five of UH's seven 3-pointers. UH finished the game 8-of-13 from behind the arc and 9-of-10 from the line. Hawaii finished with 46 percent shooting for the game, including 58 percent in the first half.
The Wahine extended its lead to as many as 26 points and held off any Hurricane runs with its stingy defense. UH held Tulsa (10-7, 5-2) to just 32 percent shooting for the game and limited its top three scorers to just 14 points.
Gabrielova led the Wahine team with 15 points and five assists, while Karena Greeny added 13 points and six rebounds. Wagner finished with 11 points and Christen Roper had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Hawaii returns home to face Nevada on Thursday, January 24. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
