No. 5 WARRIORS RALLY TO POST COMBACK WIN IN FIVE: Trio of Hawai‘i Middle Blockers Combine for 29 kills to Lead Resurgence

HONOLULU – Warrior middle blockers Dejan Miladinovic, Delano Thomas and Brian Nordberg combined to drop 29 kills, and post 13 block assists to help Hawai'i storm back to victory from a 2-0 deficit in five sets on day two of the 8th Annual Outrigger Volleyball Invitational.

Miladinovic, a senior from Kraljevo, Serbia, recorded 13 kills and a match-high six block assists to inspire the Warriors. His counterparts in the middle of the Hawai'i attack, Thomas and Nordberg, complemented his effort with eight kills apiece of their own.

Thomas, a freshman making just his second collegiate start, hit .500 with four block assists to spark the Warrior surge. Nordberg, a junior transfer from UC Santa Barbara, hit .538 on the match.

Lewis flew-out to a two-game lead, taking the first two sets by scores of 31-29. But inspired play and relentless defense pulled the Warriors back into the game, as Hawai'i hit .325 and put-up five blocks in game three.

Game four saw All-American Costas Theocharidis take the team on his back for a quick run as he put down six kills on six swings. Theocharidis had a typically strong evening, carrying the brunt of the attacking load to record match-highs in kills (26), block solo's (2) and digs (10) while hitting .333.

The final game saw the Warriors dominate by hitting at a .615 clip to clinch the match for their third straight win. Setter Kimo Tuyay had a solid night to set the pace, dishing-out 71 assists while also tallying six digs and six block assists.

Acosta, who recorded 18 kills yesterday, hit .577 to spark the Bruins to a team .500 percentage on the match.

Penn State hit well also, recording a .353 hitting percentage in their second consecutive three game loss in as many days. The Nittany Lions were led by Carlos Guerra's 15 kills.

The 8th Annual Outrigger Invitational wraps-up tomorrow at the Stan Sheriff Center, with Penn State and Lewis meeting at 5:00 p.m. Hawai'i hosts fellow tournament front-runner UCLA for the title at 7:30 p.m..
