The University of Hawai‘i women’s tennis team looked to gain their first win of the season against the No. 19 Aggies of Texas A&M at the UH Tennis Complex this afternoon. But the unranked Wahine left without a win.
Wahine Justine Boutet and Polina Kravets were able to stop the Aggie sweep attack in doubles, downing Texas A&M’s Robyn Bassett and Olivia Karlikova, 8-6. The duo was paired together for the first time this season. This marks the first victory for Boutet in doubles while Kravets has raked up three.
In singles competition Lauren Fitzgerald claimed the No. 2 position from Majorie Terburgh, stopping the Aggies from a sweep in singles action, and marking the first victory of the freshman’s collegiate career.
Senior Stacy Hakikawa had the daunting task of going head to head with Jessica Roland in the No. 1 position. In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Roland is ranked No. 73 in singles, and when teamed up with Terburgh, the duo is No. 28 in doubles.
The Rainbow Wahine (0-2) look to Cal State Northridge for their first victory. Northridge travels to Hawai‘i to play their first match of the season against the Wahine. Matches will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
