HURLEY SPARKS WAHINE SOCCER TO 2-1 WIN AT TULSA

Box Score

TULSA, Okla. – Hawaii senior defender Carmel Hurley capped-off a 50-yard run downfield by drilling a right-footed shot to register her first collegiate goal and lift the Wahine to a 2-1 victory in their 2001 Western Athletic Conference season opener on the road against Tulsa.

Hurley received a long pass and dribbled to goal, scoring her first goal as a Rainbow Wahine at 27:50.

The Wahine netted their first goal of the night when Jennifer Starsiak ran-on to a through ball from fellow senior Veronica Flores and chipped it beyond the reach of Tulsa keeper Abby Fahrig just 10 minutes and 24 seconds after kick-off. The goal was Starsiak's third of the season, and the 15th of her career, tying her for the school record in that category.

The assist was Flores' second of the season, and the 10th of her career, tying her for second place on the Hawaii career charts.

The Golden Hurricane rebounded with a goal in the 69th minute by Holly Lorman, who beat Hawaii keeper Jennifer Churchill in a one-v-one after receiving a long ball over the top of the Wahine defense.

Churchill played well in goal for the Wahine, facing 21 shots while posting 6 saves to improve her season record to 4-2-0.

The Wahine continue their WAC season on Sunday, at 1:00 pm at Rice. -uh-
