BERKLEY, Calif. – The Wahine put-up a valiant effort against 6th-ranked California, holding the Golden Bears scoreless for almost 40-minutes before falling, 4-0 at Goldman Field today.
Wahine junior goalkeeper Jennifer Churchill withstood a 12-to-1 shot advantage for Cal in the first period, allowing only a Kassie Doubrava goal in the 40th minute during the first half. On the match, Churchill recorded a career-high 11 saves as the Wahine were outshot, 33-to-2.
Hawaii will return home tomorrow to ready for their Western Athletic Conference opener in two weeks. The Wahine will open their league slate with road matches at Tulsa (Oct. 12), and Rice (Oct. 14), before completing that road trip with a non-conference contest at Stephen F. Austin.
