Several University of Hawai'i football team members were recognized on Phil Steele's preseason All-Mountain West teams which will appear in the magazine's 2013 College Football Preview which hits newsstands June 18.
Five Warriors were mentioned on the preseason's all-MW first, second, third, and fourth teams, including first teamer
Scott Harding (PR).
In addition, linebacker
Art Laurel and defensive back
John Hardy-Tuliau were selected to the second team while wide receiver
Billy Ray Stutzmann and defensive lineman
Tavita Woodard were picked to the third team.
Last season, Harding ranked 13
th nationally and second in the MW with a 12.8 punt return average. The junior from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia also ranked second on the team with 20 receptions and second with 321 receiving yards and a team-best 16.0 yards per reception.
Laurel, a senior from Wahiawa, O'ahu, was named to Phil Steele's all-MW third team after finishing with 51 total tackles, including 13.5 for loss, and four sacks. He tied for 31
st nationally and first in the MW in tackles-for-loss.
Hardy-Tuliau, a senior from Temecula, Calif., tied for fifth in the MW with three interceptions. He ranked fifth on the team with 42 total tackles, including 3.0 for loss and seven passes defended. He was the MW's defensive player of the week after recording six tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakup in a win over UNLV.
Stutzmann, a senior from Honolulu, was the team's leading receiver in receptions (35) and yards (447) and averaged 12.8 yards per reception. He ranked 10
th in the MW in both receptions per game (3.5) and yards per game (44.7) and enters the 2013 season having caught a pass in 23 straight games dating back to his freshman season.
Woodard, a senior from Honolulu, was an honorable mention all-MW pick in 2012. He was also named to Phil Steele's all-MW third team after tying for sixth in the league with 5.5 sacks. He also recorded 38 total tackles, one interception, and three quarterback hurries.
The Warriors open the 2013 season by hosting USC, Thursday, Aug. 29 at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.
