Gwen Nakamura joined the University of Hawai‘i Athletics Department in September 1990.
Nakamura currently holds the position of Assistant Band Director since 1990. In her role, Nakamura is responsible for pep band, spring concert bands and assistant marching band director.
Nakamura previously worked at Castle High School (1987-88) and Kahuku School (1989-90) before joining the University of Hawai‘i.
The Hilo, Hawai‘i native earned her degree in music education from the University of Hawai‘i in 1984 and returned for a master’s in music education in 1986 while she was a graduate assistant with the band.
Nakamura is a member of HMEA, OBDA, CBDNA, and NBA. She currently resides in Honolulu with her three dogs.
