Puna Kaniho joins the Rainbow Wahine volleyball staff as the volunteer coach for the 2019 season. Kaniho returns home after playing men's volleyball and earning two degrees from Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, Ariz.). Kaniho received his Bachelor of Science in sports management in 2016 and then earned his Master's in Business Administration in sports business in 2018.
After redshirting his true freshman year, Kaniho went on to play four seasons at setter for the Lopes. He finished his career ranked fourth all-time in GCU history with 1,249 assists. As a senior, he played a career-high 66 sets while leading the team with 570 assists. He was named Off The Block's National Player of the Month in January 2018. Kaniho appeared in 78 matches and 172 sets during his career while recording 18 service aces, 175 digs, and 58 total blocks. Kaniho earned MIVA All-Academic honors all four years.
Kaniho is a 2013 graduate of Kamehameha Schools—Kapalama where he helped lead the Warriors to a state runner-up finish as a senior. He earned ILH first team honors as a senior setter and was ranked #9 in Hawai'i's "Fab 15".
