Bridgette Thompson joined the Rainbow Wahine tennis program in July 2009 as the newest member of the coaching staff.
Thompson is no stranger to Hawai‘i having competed against the Rainbow Wahine for the last three years as a member of the Utah State women’s tennis team. During her three-year career with the Aggies, she posted 15 wins in singles action and elevated herself to the No. 2 position by her senior season. She also won 20 matches in doubles action and was team captain in both her junior and senior seasons. Prior to joining Utah State, she was the top rated junior player in the state.
“Bridgette is a wonderful addition to our program,” head coach Jun Hernandez said. “She is an outstanding tennis player, an exceptional competitor, and a great leader. She was a fantastic ambassador for Utah State’s program and we are fortunate to have her join us here in Hawai‘i. I believe she’ll be an excellent role model for the young women on our team and I’m truly happy that she’s joined our ‘ohana.”
The native of Cedar Hills, Utah, honed her coaching skills while still competing collegiately. She has served as a private tennis instructor for both youth and adult age groups for the last five years. She also recently participated in the Trabert Tennis Camp in Pebble Beach, Calif., and the Nike Tennis Camp in Logan, Utah as a coach and camp counselor.
A three-time all-WAC academic selection, Thompson graduated from Utah State in the spring of 2009 with a degree in parks and recreation with a minor in sociology. This past summer, the former Bridgette Strickland, wed Hiram Thompson, a member of the Rainbow Warrior basketball team.
