Tino Reyes

University of Hawai`i men's volleyball program would not be the same without Warrior associate coach Tolentino "Tino" Reyes at the side of head coach Mike Wilton. Reyes has been an integral part of the Hawai`i men's volleyball program.

Entering his 15th season as Wilton's right hand man, Reyes has been instrumental in helping build the Hawai`i program. His recruiting efforts and work with the team's setters and defensive strategy insights have proved invaluable leading the Warriors to the school's very first NCAA Championship (2002) in any men's sport.

Under Reyes' watch, several Warrior setters have had great careers in Manoa. Erik Pichel earned American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team All-America honors in 1996. Curt Vaughan became the school's all-time assists leader a year later, while former Warrior setter and current assistant coach Mason Kuo became just the sixth player in Hawai`i history to amass more than 2,000 career assists.

In 2001, Kimo Tuyay became the latest in a long line of decorated Warrior setters earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Freshman of the Year honors. He also tutored former UH setter Brian Beckwith, who was a first team All-American in 2006 and twice garnered all-MPSF honors.

He also aids the Warrior volleyball summer camps as well as assisting Wilton in recruiting national and international players.

Reyes played for Wilton and later was an assistant coach with the Cal Poly's women's team, helping the Mustangs to national recognition and success.

Reyes coached for UH under Dave Shoji for two seasons before joining Wilton. He also coached at Southern Illinois and Weber State as an assistant coach.

The native of the island of Molokai was head women's volleyball coach at Oregon State and Chaminade.

Tino and his wife, Susan, have four children: Jaylan Kainoa, Ryan Kapono, Jonah Nainoa and Emma.
