When Warrior head coach Mike Wilton named his son Aaron as an assistant coach three years ago, it was of little surprise.
A former All-American outside hitter for the Warriors, Wilton has coaching in his blood.
His grandfather Willie Wilton was head men's basketball coach at UC Santa Barbara for years and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame for his efforts as the Gaucho hoops program's most successful coach.
Aaron's father, Hawai`i boss Mike Wilton, is a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year who has 500 career wins as a collegiate head coach.
The younger Wilton has been a part of all three of Hawai`i's NCAA Final Four participants, playing in two (1995, 1996), and coaching in the 2002 tournament.
This season will be Wilton's fourth as an assistant coach. His duties include assisting with practices as well as working with the passers, outside hitters, and backrow defensive players.
During Hawai`i's 1996 NCAA runner-up performance, Wilton earned second team All-America and secon-team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors.
He currently ranks 10th all-time in the UH record book in kills (1,089) and kill attempts (2,184), and is also seventh in digs (593).
Wilton graduated from the University of Hawai`i in 1997 with a degree in sociology.
Wilton prepped at Hilo High School on the Big Island where he earned first-team all-Big Island Interscholastic Federation honors, leading the Vikings to the BIIF tournament.
Aaron is single and resides in Honolulu. His hobbies include writing, going to the beach, and working out.
