Zane Johnson is in his second year as a graduate manager for the Rainbow Warriors. His main responsibilities include scheduling and player development. He’s also involved in alumni outreach, practice preparation, and player nutrition.
Johnson is no stranger to Rainbow Warrior basketball having spent two seasons (2010-11, 2011-12) with the ‘Bows as an all-conference player. During his time at UH he established himself as the most prolific three-point shooter in program history. He holds the UH record for most three pointers for a career (180) and, as a junior, set the all-time single-season record with 98 makes beyond the arc. Johnson’s .385 career three-point field-goal percentage ranks fifth all-time.
Johnson was a two-time all-WAC honoree and, during his senior season, set another program record when he hit 29 straight free throws over a seven-game period. That year, he led the team in three-pointers (82), free-throw percentage (.841) and minutes (34.3 mpg).
Johnson made an immediate impact when he came to the ‘Bows as a junior. He led the WAC and ranked eighth in the nation in three pointers per game (3.2) and was selected to the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic All-Tournament Team.
Prior to UH, he played two seasons at Arizona where he was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams. The native of Phoenix, Ariz., was a two-time region Player of the Year and three-time all-region selection in high school. He was rated as the No. 83 overall recruit on Sports Illustrated’s Hot 100 Seniors and the No. 38 small forward prospect by rivals.com.
Following his collegiate career, he made numerous stops across the globe, playing professionally in Spain, Italy, Japan, and Canada. He also had stints with the Canton Charge of the NBA Developmental League and the NBA Summer League squad for the New York Knicks.
Johnson is currently pursuing his master’s in athletic administration.
