Former Rainbow Warrior player Michael Thomas returned to Hawai‘i as an assistant coach in the summer of 2021. He oversees the development of UH’s wing players while also focusing on the phases of rebounding and transition for the Rainbow Warriors. Thomas is also heavily involved in recruiting, player development, and the team's strength program.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • In two-plus years at Athletic Gaines, worked numerous NBA players through their off-season training.
  • Oversaw Athletic Gaines' NBA combine training, helping a variety of players elevate to the NBA and other professional leagues abroad.
  • Was an assistant basketball coach at Harvard Westlake High School for two seasons and was a performance trainer for the Calabasas High School football team.

PLAYING HIGHLIGHTS
  • A three-year captain, a starter on UH's 2016 NCAA Tournament team and the winningest player in program history.
  • Ranks fourth all-time in games played (116) at UH. 
  • Earned all-Big West honorable mention as a senior after leading the team in scoring and rebounding. 
  • Recipient of the team's Art Woolaway Most Outstanding Player Award as well as the Riley Wallace Leadership Award during his final season in 2017-18.
