Chris Gerlufsen

Chris Gerlufsen joined the UH staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2019. Gerlufsen, who boasts more than two decades of coaching, serves as the team’s offensive coordinator and oversees the UH guards. He is also heavily involved with scouting and recruiting.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Had an impactful first season at UH serving as the team’s acting head coach for the first 13 games of the 2019-20.   
  • Led UH to an 8-5 non-conference record, highlighted by an early-season upset of San Francisco and UH’s first win in the opening round of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in five years.
  • Coached the UH guards, among them all-Big West honorable mention point guard Drew Buggs who led the league in assists and became the school’s all-time leader in the category in 2019-20.  
  • Prior to UH, coached at San Diego where he helped elevate the Toreros to unprecedented success.
  • The Toreros posted consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in program history and advanced to the postseason both years. After an impressive run in 2018-19, USD accomplished another first by competing in the NIT.
  • Served as USD's offensive coordinator and also headed the program's global recruiting efforts, signing more than a half dozen international players during his tenure.
  • In the last two seasons at USD, coached a trio of all-conference selections, including Isaiah Pineiro, a two-time all-WCC first-team selection who signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings.
  • Prior to USD, spent nine years at the University of Hartford, the last two years as associate head coach.
  • His perimeter-oriented motion offense helped the Hawks set a school and conference record with 312 three-pointers in 2007-08.
  • Also instrumental in developing a Hartford defense that ranked 11th nationally in turnovers forced in 2012-13. Also served as the staff's recruiting coordinator.

PLAYING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Captain on a Randolph-Macon squad that twice advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
