SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • The Rainbow Wahine finished the 2023 season with a 30-23 overall for its second-straight winning season. It is just the sixth winning season for UH since 2013

 

  • Finished in a tie for fifth place in the Big West with a 13-14 record

 

  • UH recorded 30 wins for the 25th time in program history, the first time since 2019

 

  • Hawai‘i led the league with a team with a .440 slugging percentage, 1.00 home runs per game and .36 double plays per game. 

 

  • Individually, several Rainbow Wahine finished the season leading the Big West, including…
    • Mya’Liah Bethea - 12 home runs and .23 home runs per game
    • Maya Nakaura - .531 on-base percentage
    • Haley Johnson - .81 RBI per game
    • Ka‘ena Keliinoi - .26 sacrifice bunts per game
    • Izabella Martinez - toughest to strikeout (4 strikeouts)

 

  • UH starting pitchers Key-Annah Campbell-Pua and Brianna Lopez both fired their first career no-hitters in 2023. Freshman Campbell-Pua faced the minimum 21 Montana batters in Las Vegas, Nev. (2/19) in UH’s first no-hitter since 2019. Lopez fired her no-hit shutout against UC San Diego (4/1) to clinch the series. The southpaw was one walk away from firing a perfect game against the Tritons. 

 

  • UH cranked a league-high 53 home runs–the most since the 2015 squad hammered 56 homers. Eleven different players hit at least one home run, led by Bethea’s league-best 12 

 

  • Six Rainbow Wahine garnered All-Big West honors
    • FIRST TEAM - Izabella Martinez and Maya Nakamura
    • SECOND TEAM - Brianna Lopez
    • HONORABLE MENTION - Xiao Gin and Haley Johnson
    • ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM - Key-Annah Campbell-Pua

 

  • In addition to earning all-BW honors, Nakamura also was voted to the NFCA’s All-West Region Third Team after leading UH for the second-straight season with a .390 batting average. The Honolulu-native who started 50 games at second base also led UH with 35 runs, 29 walks

 

  • Three Rainbow Wahine–Bethea, Nakamura, and Rachel Sabourin were named to the prestigious CSC Academic All-District team
