2022 RAINBOW WARRIOR FOOTBALL

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • Head coach Timmy Chang completed his first season at his alma mater, guiding the Rainbow Warriors to a 3-10 season. His first career victory came against Duquesne in UH’s Homecoming Game.

 

  • UH placed eight members on the Mountain West’s all-conference teams, including a pair on the first team — OL Ilm Manning and TE Caleb Phillips.

 

  • OL Micah Vanterpool was picked to the all-MW second team while five others earned honorable mention – DL Blessman Ta’ala, RB Dedrick Parson, DL John Tuitupou, RB Tylan Hines, and DB Peter Manuma.

 

  • Five Warriors were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, including two-time recipient OL Eliki Tanuvasa. Also named to the team were PK Kyler Halvorsen, DB Noa Kamana, DL Fo‘i Shaw, and LB Logan Taylor.

 

  • Four Warriors received free agent contracts with NFL teams — Zion Bowens (Washington Commanders), Ilm Manning (San Francisco 49ers), Jordan Murray (Houston Texans), and Caleb Phillips (New York Giants) while two others signed with the Canadian Football League — Penei Pavihi (Hamilton Tiger Cats) and Blessman Ta‘ala (Ottawa Redblacks).

 

  • UH placed 20 on the Mountain West academic all-conference team including four-year honorees Kamuela Borden and Noa Kamana. Third-year honorees include Jonah Kahahawai-Welch, Kalamaku Kuewa, Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala, Fo’i Shaw, and Eliki Tanuvasa while second-year honorees are Ben Falck, Kyler Halvorsen, Caleb Phillips, and Logan Taylor.

 

  • UH regained possession of the Island Showdown Trophy following a 31-25 Senior Night victory over UNLV at Ching Complex.

 

  • DL Blessman Ta‘ala completed a five-year career, playing in a program-record 64 games. OL Ilm Manning also set a new program-record with 60 career starts in his five-year career.

 

  • LB Logan Taylor started the final six games and posted double-digit tackles in each game while finishing as the team’s leading tackler with 85 tackles (49 solo).

 

  • Caleb Phillips’ 138 yards receiving against New Mexico State was the most by a UH tight end in more than 50 years and the third-most in recorded history behind Henry Savio (151 at UC Santa Barbara, 1971) and McKinley Reynolds (at Cal State LA, 1968).

 

  • Former UH football player Harry Field was named to the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023. Field, the seventh former UH player named to the Hall, became the first player of Polynesian ancestry to play in the NFL.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

A total of 20 Rainbow Warriors were selected to the Mountain West All-Academic team which is earned by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher while playing in 50% or more of the total contests.

ISLAND SHOWDOWN

The 'Bows reclaimed the Island Showdown Trophy on Senior Night in their 31-25 victory over UNLV.

CLASS OF 2022

Hawai'i celebrated the careers of 23 Rainbow Warriors on Senior Night, where they would conclude the home season with a victory over rival UNLV.
