2022-23 HAWAI'I MEN'S TENNIS 

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• Since being named the men’s tennis head coach, Joel Kusnierz has led the Rainbow Warriors to four-straight winning seasons. In 2022-23 the Warriors finished with an 11-9 overall record

• Hawai‘i finished 4th in the Big West with a 3-3 record.

• In the BW Championship semifinals, UH recorded an epic, come-from-behind win over Cal Poly. Down 1-3, No. 1 Andre Ilagan’s three-set victory sparked the comeback with a three-set win and No. 2  Axel Labrunie and No. 4 Guillaume Tattevin closed out the match edging out the Mustangs, 4-3.

• In singles, fifth-year senior Ilagan concluded his illustrious career as the most decorated player in program history, became the first Rainbow Warrior…
  • …to compete in the NCAA Men’s Singles Championships twice
  • …to win not one but two NCAA Championship matches
  • …to reach the NCAA Round of 16 to automatically became UH's first ever ITA All-America 
  • …to earn All-Big West First Team honors four times
  • …the first Big West player to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 since 2013
• After beginning the season with a 1-3 singles record (with all three losses coming to ranked players) Ilagan won his next 17-straight match. His historic run came to a close in the NCAA Championships Round of 16 where he fell to Ohio State's Alexander Bernard. 

• Ilagan earned All-Big West First Team honors in both singles and doubles with partner Lucas Labrunie. Axel Laburnie garnered All-BW Second Team singles honors while earning Honorable Mention honors in doubles with partner Kilian Maitre. 

• Axel Labrunie earned CSC Academic All-District honors

2022-23 BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

2023 BIG WEST TOURNAMENT

The Rainbow Warriors entered the 2023 Big West Championship as the fourth seed. In their opening match, the Rainbow Warriors came back and defeated fifth seeded Cal Poly 4-3 to advance in the tournament. The season came to an unfortunate end in the semifinals where they would lose to UCSB 1-4.

ANDRE ILAGAN'S HISTORICAL SEASON

Local boy Andre Ilagan continued his dominance in his final year with the program, making history at the NCAA Tournament while adding on to his extensive list of accolades. Ilagan's 2022-23 campaign solidified him as the most decorated men's tennis player in program history.

Andre Ilagan competed in his second straight NCAA Tournament and became the first Hawai'i Men's Tennis player to win a match at the NCAA Singles Championship.
