2022 RAINBOW WAHINE SOCCER 

Team Goal Celebration vs. UC Davis

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rainbow Wahine finished seventh in The Big West, one spot out of the conference tournament at 3-4-3 in league play and 6-6-6 overall.

 

  • Hawai‘i totaled 12 points in Big West play and were in the hunt for a spot in the conference tournament until the final match of the season, when UH fell to eventual NCAA Round of 16 team UC Irvine.

 

  • Four UH players earned postseason recognition from The Big West, led by Eliza Ammendolia on the first team. Jacey Jicha was named second-team all-conference while Amber Gilbert was named all-freshman and Krista Peterson received honorable mention recognition. 

 

  • Defense was a strength for the Rainbow Wahine, as they finished tied for third in The Big West with 21 goals allowed while putting together four shutouts.

 

  • Hawai‘i players claimed conference weekly honors four times, as Gilbert earned freshman of the week honors twice and goalies Lauren Marquez and Sophie Augustin were named Big West Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive weeks in September. 

 

  • UH’s starting forward line of Gilbert, Peterson and Kelci Sumida packed a majority of the offensive punch, combining for 11 of the team’s 15 goals and totaling 32 points among them.  

 

  • All six of the Rainbow Wahine’s six wins were decided by one goal, as UH went 6-1 this year in matches decided by one goal. 

 

  • Six Rainbow Wahine earned Academic All-District recognition from the College Sports Communicators, as Taylor Caporus, Maya Gonzalez, Lauren Marquez, Kylie McNamara, Krista Peterson and Kelci Sumida earned recognition.

THANK YOU SENIORS

Hawai‘i honored a group of nine seniors following its final home match on Oct. 23 following its final home match vs. Cal State Fullerton. The UH senior class of Eliza Ammendolia, Taylor Caporus, Emily Cottrell, Bailey Faulkner, V Jimenez, Lauren Marquez, Kylie McNamara, Kelci Sumida and Julia Wolfe combined to play in 281 matches over their careers with 162 starts among them.

GAME WINNERS

The Rainbow Wahine had a flair for the dramatic in their six wins this year, as all of their wins were decided by one goal. Two of the game-winners came in the final 20 minutes of the match while five different players on the team recorded at least one game-winning goal or assist.
