2021 HAWAI‘I MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON HIGHLIGHTS Hawai‘i captured the national title with a straight-set victory over BYU in the NCAA Championship match in Columbus, Ohio. UH finished the season with a 17-1 record and posted its first outright regular season conference title with a perfect 10-0 mark in Big West Conference play. Five Warriors were named to the AVCA All-America teams including Player of the Year Rado Parapunov, who became just the third player in program history to win the award. Parapunov, middle blocker Patrick Gasman and libero Gage Worsley were named to the first team, outside hitter Colton Cowell was selected to the second team and setter Jakob Thelle was an honorable mention honoree. UH won five of the 11 national awards presented by Off the Block including two each by Parapunov – Bryan Ivie Award (best opposite) & Nicolas Szerszen Award (best non-U.S. born player) – and Worsley – Erik Shoji Award (best libero) and Steve Shondell Award (best passer). Gasman was the recipient of the Ryan Millar Award (best middle attacker). Parapunov was named the Big West Conference’s Player of the Year for the second straight year and Gasman became the league’s first four-time, first-team honoree. Parapunov and Worsley were three-time, first-team recipients while Cowell was named to the first team for the second straight year. Parapunov became the first player in AVCA history to win National Player of the Week three times in a single season while his five career weekly awards is second most in program history. He also won Big West Player of the Week five times in 2021 and 15 in his career. UH finished as the nation’s leader in team kills (13.72), team hitting percentage (.360) and team assists (12.57) while Gasman led the country in hitting percentage (.510). Parapunov received the Athletic Department’s Jack Bonham Award, given to the top male and female senior student-athletes. UH won its first 15 matches of the season, which is the second-best start in program history. Parapunov and Gasman made up the winningest senior class in program history having been a part of 106 wins since 2017. In fact, Gasman is the winningest player in program history having played 124 of 125 career matches with a record of 105-19.
