2020-21 RAINBOW WAHINE BASKETBALL

December 20, 2020. HONOLULU, Hi. NCAA Women’s Basketball: Hawaii vs UH Hilo in Simplifi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Notched back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2016 with a 9-8 overall record and a 7-6 Big West Conference mark.

  • Advanced to the conference tournament semifinals for the third consecutive year after knocking off CSU Bakersfield in the quarterfinals, 81-67. The season came to an end with a loss to eventual champion UC Davis.

  • Claimed six all-conference honors, including freshman guard Daejah Phillips being named the Sixth Player of the Year.

  • Won five of their last seven regular season games, highlighted by a win over conference champion UC Davis. UH was the only Big West team during the 2020-2021 campaign to hand the Aggies a loss.

  • The ‘Bows proved to be one of the hardest working teams in the conference, averaging 41 rebounds per game to lead the Big West, including a plus-6.6 rebounding margin, best in the league. The effort and hard work didn’t end there as the ‘Bows ranked third in the conference in defensive field goal percentage, holding opponents to 38% from the field.

  • Senior forward Amy Atwell kept climbing the ladder of the career three-point field goals made record, by hitting 36 on the season and 129 over four seasons. Atwell, who will be return for her fifth season at UH, trails Megan Tinnin (167) for the program record.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Rainbow Wahine racked up the airline miles and hotel stays after playing seven straight conference road games due to a myriad of reasons, mainly related to COVID. During that span, UH went nearly six weeks between home games.
