SERIES INFORMATION
  • UH snapped a six-game losing streak to San Diego State and defeated the Aztecs for the first time ever in Mountain West play (1-6).
  • It was also UH’s first win in San Diego in nine tries. The Warriors last won in San Diego in 1988 (32-30).
  • UH’s last win over SDSU came in a non-conference match-up in Honolulu in 2005 (49-38) and its last conference win occurred in 1989 (31-24) in Honolulu, when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
  • SDSU leads the all-time series 21-10-2. The Aztecs also hold a 9-6 advantage in games played in San Diego.
  • This was the second overtime game between the teams. San Diego State defeated UH 28-21 in the previous meeting in Honolulu in 2013.

STREAKS/TRENDS
  • After dropping four straight games, UH ended the regular-season with two straight wins.
  • John Ursua has caught at least one pass in 30 straight games.

TEAM NOTES
  • UH’s eight regular-season wins is its most since winning 10 in 2010.
  • The win also ensured Hawai‘i its first winning season since 2010 (10-4).
  • UH finished with its best-ever Mountain West record (5-3) and finished in second in the West Division for the second time (also in 2016).
  • UH is 10-5 all-time in overtime games including 2-0 this year. UH also won at San Jose State in five overtimes (44-41).
  • UH is now 8-2 all-time in overtime games on the road.
  • UH was shutout in a half (second) for the first time since a shutout loss at Utah State last season.
  • UH had season-high nine different players with at least one reception. The previous high was eight players vs. Duquesne.
  • Fred Trevillion’s 76-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was the longest play from scrimmage that UH has surrendered this year.
  • During that span, UH has one .500 record and six losing seasons.
  • UH finished 3-3 in road games this season, including a 2-2 mark in MW play. Under Rolovich, UH is 7-11 in road games, including a 5-6 record in MW road contests.
  • UH made its sixth appearance on national television this season. The Warriors are 3-3 with wins over Colorado State, Navy, and San Diego State and losses at Army, BYU, and Fresno State.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Cole McDonald threw for a career-high 452 yards on 29-of-46 passing.
  • McDonald is just the sixth UH quarterback to have at least three 400-yard games in a season (Bryant Moniz, Colt Brennan, Timmy Chang, Nick Rolovich, Dan Robinson).
  • McDonald threw for 320 yards and accounted for all three UH touchdowns in the first half.
  • McDonald scored his third rushing touchdown of the season on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter. In addition to his three TD passes, he has now accounted for 39 total touchdowns this season, the fifth-most in UH single-season history.  
  • Cedric Byrd finished with six catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. It was the junior’s second 100-yard game this season.
  • JoJo Ward finished with six catches for 120 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime. It was the junior receiver’s second straight 100-yard game and third overall this season.
  • Senior Marcus Armstrong-Brown had a career-high 86 receiving yards and tied his career-mark for receptions (7).
  • Redshirt freshman Miles Reed set new career highs for rushing attempts (12) and yards (47).
  • Ryan Meskell nailed a field goal of 22 yards on UH’s opening drive. Meskell is 15-of-18 on field goals this year.
  • UH came out in a wildcat formation on offense with John Ursua behind center and sophomore Hekili Keliiliki making his first career start at running back.
  • Elijah Dale posted his second touchdown reception this year when he caught a 2-yard pass from Cole McDonald early in the second quarter.
  • True freshman Khory Bethley tied his career-high with nine tackles.
  • In his second start of the season, Scheyenne Sanitoa had a career-high seven tackles.
